The Treatment Process, Start To Finish
Most same day crowns take two appointments around two hours apart on the same day.
We check the tooth and take a digital scan, so no putty moulds. The crown is designed on screen while you wait and you can see it before we make it. Our in-house milling unit cuts it from a single ceramic block, which takes about fifteen minutes. We fit it, check your bite, polish it and you are done.
You can eat normally the same day. There is no waiting for weeks between appointments and no temporary crown to look after in between.
What a same day crown is, and who it suits
A crown is a cap that covers a damaged or heavily filled tooth and restores it to full shape and strength. A same day crown does that in one day instead of two.
With a traditional crown, we take moulds, fit a temporary, send the case to a laboratory and bring you back two to three weeks later. With a same day crown, the design and the milling happen here in the practice while you wait, so you leave with the finished tooth.
It suits a cracked or broken tooth, a tooth that has had root canal treatment, or an old filling that has become too large to hold the tooth together. If you are travelling, or you simply do not want to wear a temporary crown for a fortnight, this is the option to ask about.
What same day crowns cost at Chomp Dental
A same-day crown at Chomp Dental is $1,800. This covers the scan, design, crown and fitting on the day, with no separate laboratory fee or second appointment required.
The $1,800 fee does not include any additional treatment that may be required before the crown, such as a filling or removal of an existing crown. We will let you know the cost of any additional treatment before we begin, so there are no surprises.
Health fund cover for crowns
Most private health funds with extras cover pay a portion of a crown. How much depends on your fund, your level of cover and how much of your annual limit you have already used.
