When is the right age for teen braces?
Most teenagers start between twelve and fourteen, once the adult teeth are through. That timing lets us work with the jaw while it is still growing, which usually means shorter treatment.
There is no hard cut off. If your teenager is fifteen or sixteen and has not started, treatment still works well.
If they are younger than twelve, early treatment may be the better fit, and we will tell you that at the consultation rather than starting something they are not ready for.
Braces and clear aligner options for teenagers
Fixed braces are still the most predictable option, particularly where the bite needs correcting as well as the teeth straightening. They work on their own once fitted, with no reliance on your teenager remembering anything.
Clear aligners suit teenagers who are self conscious about visible braces and who will wear them around twenty two hours a day. They come out for eating and brushing, which some families prefer and others find is one more thing to keep track of.

We give you a full written quote at the consultation, with the total and the monthly figure side by side. Payment plans spread the cost across the treatment.
If you have private health extras with an orthodontic limit, that comes off the total. Bring your fund details and we will tell you what you are likely to get back.
Health fund cover for orthodontics
Most private health funds with orthodontic extras contribute to teenage treatment, usually against a lifetime limit rather than a yearly one.
Bring your card to the consultation and we will check what is available and show it in the written quote as the gap you would actually pay. After applying any health fund rebates, the remainder can be placed on a payment plan.

We examine your teenager’s teeth and bite, take an intraoral scan, and talk through the treatment options, duration and costs. You leave with a written quote and no obligation.
